FREMANTLE INTERNATIONAL STREET ARTS FESTIVAL

31/3/2017 – With Lizzie Martin

The historic streets of Fremantle burst to life as performers transform the city into a world stage every Easter.  A great opportunity for me to test out my iphone 6 camera.

I didn’t get this performer’s name, but he was an amazing artist.

Quatuor Stomp – acrobatics, juggling, fire or a crazy act of daring.   This one of a kind performance is a game of chance where the roll of a dice determines which acts will be part of the show.

Impressed at how well the camera captured this action shot.

Just had to get a photo of this wonderful van, just what Linda needs!  Everything on tap.

Another performer strutting his stuff.

Fraser Hooper from New Zealand.   This guy was so funny, he never spoke a word, yet got people from the audience to join him and do wacky things for him. This little girl pretends to be a fish, goes in the pond, and swims around in it.

Here he is trying to catch her, it was hilarious, there is even a duck close by.  It was his expressions and exasperation at the audience that was so funny.

SCULPTURES BY THE SEA part 4, COTTESLOE 2017

18/3/2017 – Even More Outside Sculptures

PLASTIC PARADISE

In the far right background, is an enourmous can.  Hold that thought.

CANSUMERISM

How to make a little home out of a giant can.

VESSELS

Look in the background just to the right of centre, you can see ‘Pause’ from part 2, but you are looking straight through it, not side on.

NARRATION OF THE SEA

INFRASTRUCTURE 5

I love this one, sort of an old fashioned boat, with loose building blocks so children can make things on and around it.  Their absorption in the project speaks volumes.

A close up of the two children who are rearranging some of the blocks.

HORIZON

You can see Cheryl standing behind this exhibit, or at least you can see her shorts.

DRAWING ON THE GROUND

And again the container ships in the background.

UNTITLED CORAL (AQUA)

SCULPTURES BY THE SEA part 3, COTTESLOE 2017

18/3/2017 – More Outside Exhibits

MOUNTAINS AIR – CIRCLES

The entire exhibition is teeming with photographers, so it was relatively easy to capture this shot.  I also love the container ships in the background waiting to get into Fremantle docks to offload their cargo.  It is such a Perth photo!  Plus all of the kids and adults out there doing their lifesaver practice.

THE BIG FISH EATS THE LITTLE ONE

I think this is one of the sculptures that had to be moved the next day as the extra high tides were threatening parts of it.

THE COSMIC  BLACKSMITH

The car to the left is also an exhibit (Shadows on the Hill), as are the spiky things to the right (called “Anemone”).

And here we have Cheryl posing with the Cosmic Blacksmith (who looks like he is really being screwed),  behind her you can see the back view of another sculpture called “Dearest”, from the front it looks like a sofa made up of an enormous pink octopus or Medusa maybe!

LEADEN HEARTS

FANTASIA

Here’s me sitting amongst the blobs, don’t worry about the hair, it didn’t last long, but it was fun to be blonde for a few weeks.  I got a shock every time I looked in the mirror.

Some friendly Asian tourists were snapping away with their cameras, and Cheryl didn’t have any trouble asking them to take a photo of us together.   Here we are sitting between bits of Fantasia in blustery Cottesloe.  We cycled there from Cheryl’s place, had a good look around and cycled back, about 30kms in all, so some good exercise was had.

SCULPTURES BY THE SEA part 2, COTTESLOE 2017

15/3/2017 – Outside Exhibits

LOYALTY

BIG BOY, found at the end of the breakwater, an imposing sight.

You can see a few brave souls in the water, but the weather is not as kind as it has been on other years.

THE GREAT HAMMERHEAD

A very clever piece, made up of different tools, ball bearings and bits of metal.

PAUSE

Another clever sculpture, from this angle it looks like a solid piece.  Note also that wheelchair access has been provided to make this event more inclusive, a great move, now it is possible for adults and children with disabilities to get close up to almost all of the exhibits.

You can see from this angle that “Pause” is made up of many faces of metal. If you stand directly behind it, you can almost see straight through it as you are perpendicular to the faces.   Notice also that you can see “Big Boy” standing out there at the end of the breakwater.
