CHRISTMAS IN JULY WEEKEND – ACTION OUTDOORS ASSOCIATION

29/07/2016 – AOA Abseiling

The controlled descent of a vertical drop, such as a rock face, using a rope.

First the general safety talk, how to use the carabiner clips, how to climb up the ladder, what to do at the top, etc.

So here we go, I am keen to have a try at this.

img_0140

Yes, I’ll let this very clever lady hook me up correctly before taking the plunge over the side.

img_0144

Hey, this isn’t so bad, all of my weight is supported by the harness, I just have to let the rope go through my hands.

dsc02103

Hmm, the landing could need a bit more practice.

img_0151

I want another turn please.

dsc02059

Piece of cake.

dsc02111

Whoops, something went wrong that time.

dsc02092

Happy faces, yes we had a really good afternoon.  Hui Lin, Roxanne, Pamela, Suzanne, Des, Narelle, Julie and Peggy.

CHRISTMAS IN JULY WEEKEND, DWELLINGUP WITH AOA

29/07/2016 – DARE Adventure Camp, Dwellingup

At our AOA Christmas in July weekend…

img_0107

The first morning we are out trying archery, well some of us anyway.  Not me.

img_0111

Here is Mia trying her luck with the bow and arrow.

And here is Hui Lin having a go at rock climbing.  Again, I didn’t attempt this, still having trouble with my elbow since Tree Adventure Ropes Course

img_0119

A close up of Hui Lin, she was the closest to getting to the top, a great effort.  We felt it was probably because she is carrying a lot less weight than everyone else!!

And here is Marshall having a serious go at getting to the top, but to no avail.

IN THE TREES PART 2

1/05/2016 – Tree Adventure Ropes Course

Onwards and upwards, so they say.

OMG

We are all out there trying different courses, getting more and more tired, but feeling good.

Trouble

Someone is in trouble here, and that one was a doozy.  Nothing at the bottom of the poles to stabilize them, so they just sort of swayed with your own body movement.

Julie

Here is Julie totally showing off. (She did tell me later that she picked out her pose for this photo).

RopeThing

I call this – the circle ropey thing, you have to climb up the rope tunnel, not too hard except that you are locked on to a wire at the same time, and have to work out how to keep moving and not strangle yourself.

RopeTunnel3

Yeah, sort of like this.  Change your locks, move a bit, change your locks again.

2wires2

Nice, this one is two wires, and THAT’S ALL.

Ziplining

And ziplining, my favourite, but it all gets harder as you get more tired.

OMG2

This is where I really lost it.  A swingy ropey, different level log thing, my legs went backwards and my top half went forwards and there I stayed, too tired to move.  By this time, some others had finished so I also had an audience, and there is a video available – thanks Julie – shown at the next AOA meeting – also thanks Julie.  I did eventually manage to creep my way to the end platform and complete the Black course – now only the Extra Black one to conquer.

Lumberjack

Let’s all go home and have a cuppa tea.  (I’m a lumberjack)

IN THE TREES

1/05/2016 – Tree Adventure Ropes Course

Here is a day not to be forgotten.

Instructions

Here is the energetic AOA bunch, looking fit and healthy, hanging on to every word that the instructor is saying.  He shows us how to lock our ropes so that we are safe, and explains the protocol of the course. Start on the easier yellow and blue courses, then if you feel capable you can move up to the red, then black ones.

FirstStep

Seems easy enough, some of us are already wondering if this is the right sport for us!  Hmm, it is rather high.

MeNext

Me next, are you sure?

EasyPeasy

Never fear, this looks easy enough. Just put one foot in front of the other.

ReadIinstructions

Just let me read these instructions here – WHAT, I have to grab that rope and it will take me gracefully to the ground!

LongWayDown

But it looks an awfully long way down.  And they said this was the easy course!

Zipline2

Here goes nothing.   OK, so much for the easier course – what’s next?
