20/07/2015 – Bits and Pieces

Tom attempting to eat noodles at Fremantle Markets.

Beer tasting at IronBark Brewery with Phillip.  This is me wondering if I really have to join in and drink some beer, or will Phillip be happy to polish it all off himself.  Yes – he was quite happy to have 99% of it.

Strange looking car he wanted me to photograph at the Brewery.

Here is Emma doing a good job of totally ruining my carefully posed family photo.

Yes, we did finally get her to sit down and behave.  From the left, Andrew, Tom, Linda, Phillip, Emma.  A lovely family meal, thanks Steve.

29/12/2014 – Birthday Time – Margaret River Christmas/New Year Camp Part 6

I have been writing poems for some friends to thank them for their help last year.  It was very touching for me to get one back, thanks Linda, and so thoughtful to read it out loud to the whole group!  I just have to record it here for posterity.

AOA is Action Outdoors Association based in WA

As this birthday has approached

Pamela has said, “No, no”

I don’t want a celebration.

I’m afraid of maturation.

I want to stay both young and free,

I want to hike and see the sea,

Read my Blog and you will see,

How AOA has set me free.

Perth’s my Kingdom, I’m the Queen,

I love the freedom and the fun, playing tennis in the sun.

The Queen of Jive, and Rock & Roll,

And round North Lake I like to stroll.

The op shops are my own domain,

And in this Kingdom I’ll remain.

Of Perth I am now a resident

And of AOA – Vice President.

All I want is a bit of work,

Some days of teaching special kids.

Just some cash to pay the rent,

And lots of time with my clarinet?

I swan around in Linda’s house,

Dispensing professional garden advice.

I do the cooking, eggs and ham,

Topped with garlic – parmesan.

I read the books, go to book club,

I do the shopping when I have to.

And wash the dishes when I must

I even vacuum, but never dust.

I mow the lawn and feed the cat

And visit neighbours for a chat.

But what I love to do the best,

Is plan cycle activities and rest.

And best of all we love you dearly,

You’ve brightened our lives, not just merely

The social side but also your get up and go,

Lifts all of us when we feel  low.

29/12/2014 – Birthday time – Margaret River Christmas/New Year Camp Part 5

I was lucky enough to celebrate a birthday while on camp with a lot of my friends. Linda gleefully informed the entire group that it was my big day and someone suggested that we meet on the beach at sunset to have a few drinks and get together.

And a great idea it proved to be. Thanks to everyone for making this a very memorable birthday.

And yes, it is all about me!

Here she is!

And again, but look, the glass is empty!!!

That’s better.  And now we are really happy.

Others are also enjoying this beautiful evening.

I couldn’t have chosen a better place for a birthday drink.

The three wise women managed to give me a smile all at the same time.

I took a quiet moment out to appreciate how lucky I am to have made such wonderful friends, and to be having such a good time in such a beautiful place.

The evening was finished off by dinner with the girls.   Thanks for the loan of the jacket Pam, I’ll try to remember to take one with me next time!

1/11/2014 – Last cycle in Perth for a while

I was happy to catch up with Cheryl just before leaving Perth for SA and QLD.  We had decided to go for a cycle along the beach path northwards.

What a beautiful day for a ride, it was glorious.

We persuaded a nearby tourist to take our photo, it may have turned out better if he had been at the same level as us.

You can all see why I have been raving about Perth.

This is Marmion Bean looking northwards.  At this stage I was cycling on my own having lost Cheryl (she slipped past me when I wasn’t looking and I thought she was still behind me, she thought I was in front of her).

North Beach – great place, submerged rocks, strong currents, unstable cliffs and snakes!!!  Way to keep the tourists away!

Still on my own, I can’t resist stopping at every new view and admiring those waves, cliffs and beaches. People out enjoying themselves – unless their cycling buddy has not taken her mobile phone with her and you still can’t find her!!!

Mettam’s Pool – looking at those paddle boarders – that’s on my list for next year, looks cool.  That’s all of Perth for a couple months.
