29/06/2016 – On the road

Much driving was done.

We had a quick break in Dampier to stretch our legs, and see…

…  the statue of Red Dog.

I was also very happy to see near the statue, some Sturt Desert Peas, looking lovely.

And a close up.

We camped for the night behind a petrol station, only to find that behind us were hundreds of dongas, not too many seemed occupied, and it was hard to imagine how it must have been at the height of the boom when they were all full.  I heard multiple alarms going off in the morning, with doors banging and people going off to breakfast. Quite a dismal place to be living in for long I would imagine.

It is hard to give an impression of this place without being airborne, the rows of accommodation went back further than I could see.
